People’s Choice Awards 2024: 6 eye-catching looks

People’s Choice Awards 2024 are often one of the most entertaining red carpets of the year. As attendees arrive at the venue via a near-hysterical “fan walk” red carpet surrounded by the public, stars often choose bold, attention-grabbing looks in a ceremony voted for by the public rather than critics or industry bodies.

People’s Choice Awards 2024 fell on the same evening as the BAFTAs, the British film industry’s equivalent of the Oscars in a rare red-carpet clash. Several major nominees (and subsequent winners) traveled across the pond on Sunday, including Margot Robbie, Ryan Gosling and Ayo Edebiri.

The six most talked-about looks of the evening are listed below.

Thierry Mugler, the late fashion designer, always brought drama to the red carpet. We’ve seen it before, but that didn’t take any of the shine off the “Orange Is the New Black” star’s look, a velvet bustier from 1987 featuring a wing-tipped neckline and matching opera gloves from her own archive.

While hosting the evening’s preshow coverage, Cox wore a sheer, crystal-encrusted Giuseppe Di Morabito skirt with a train that added fluidity to the look.

Ice Spice

One of the evening’s most colorful looks, Ice Spice wore a burnt orange Dolce & Gabbana dress that complemented both the aquamarine awards backdrop and her copper curls.

Featuring a plunging faux-fur collar, the rapper revealed a satin bra top underneath, while sheer lace detailing showcased leopard-patterned tights even more. Her outfit was completed by heeled sandals and Le Vian jewelry, who went on to win New Artist of the Year.

Billie Eilish

It is rare for stars to wear sweater vests over shirts and ties on the red carpet. But Billie Eilish did just that for her performance in “Swarm” in which she won TV Performance of the Year.

As usual, the singer paired her baggy, offbeat look with big sneakers and a pair of frameless spectacles to give off her characteristic look.

Kylie Minogue

The dress Kylie Minogue wore looked like a shiny, emerald-green candy wrapper. As she walked the red carpet in a pair of Christian Louboutin sandals, the shimmering, strapless Raisa Vanessa gown took on an almost geometric appearance.

When Minogue performed her hit “Padam Padam” later during the ceremony, she changed into a sleek red number.

Markell Washington

It’s official: “Cowboycore” is having a moment, thanks, among other things, to Beyoncé’s growing penchant for leather boots and Stetsons. Markell Washington has doubled down – or quadrupled down, if you prefer – on the trend.

The TikTok star styled his denim cowboy hat with a floor-length skirt. He accentuated the look by wrapping his torso in metal-buckled belts (and using two others to decorate his wrists and hat).

Xochitl Gomez

On the red carpet this year, floral patterns and details have been a major trend. This year has been no different. With a pair of pink fabric flowers sat atop the shoulders of her Gucci outfit, which included bejeweled sleeves that fanned out to the elbow, actor Xochitl Gomez added a refined twist to the trend.

Having recently won “Dancing with the Stars,” for which she earned a nomination for the award’s Competition Contestant of the Year category, the 17-year-old styled her hair in an elegant style and matched her outfit with a pair of drop earrings.
